Seismic data is very large, making it difficult to move and use in workflows, and migrating petabytes or even terabytes of it to the cloud is cost-prohibitive without an underlying change to the format. Andy James, Chief Product Officer, discussed the costs associated with moving seismic data to the cloud and introduced OpenVDS, a seismic cloud-native data environment offered by the Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) via the Apache 2 open source license.
