Bluware and Shearwater GeoServices Announce Partnership to Accelerate Seismic Processing by Integrating Volume Data Store (VDS) Seismic Data Format into Reveal
HOUSTON, TX – August 29, 2022 – Bluware Corp., the digital platform that enables the energy industry to accelerate digital transformation initiatives and adopt cloud computing for subsurface data, is partnering with Shearwater GeoServices, a global provider of powerful geophysical marine seismic acquisition and processing services from sensor to image, including software. The two companies will enable geophysicists who use Reveal software to natively read and write to The Open Group OSDU™ Data Platform compliant Bluware VDS™ format, including options for GPU acceleration.
Through this collaboration, Bluware VDS will be integrated into Reveal, a software that provides time and depth processing and imaging for both marine and land environments from within a single user interface. Reveal is used for a full range of seismic processing and imaging needs including oil and gas exploration and production (E&P), carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), site identification and monitoring, and other energy transition applications.
“Shearwater Reveal’s use by leading geophysicists throughout the industry has increased dramatically over the last five years. With the integration of Bluware’s VDS technology in Reveal software, geophysicists can now work with the data they need for their specific workflows, reading and writing directly from the cloud in the OSDU-compliant format,” stated Shearwater’s Simon Telfer, Senior Vice President of Software Processing and Imaging.
E&P companies that utilize Reveal will be able to leverage Bluware VDS for cloud cost savings. Bluware VDS is a modernized approach to efficiently store, retrieve, and exploit subsurface data in the cloud, on-premises, or through the OSDU Data Platform. The unique adaptive streaming capability of VDS allows the data signal quality to be customized for each workflow, thereby reducing data storage space and costs.
Streaming rather than copying data removes storage needs on traditional file systems, eliminates disk costs, and creates a centralized data library for organizations to access resulting in enormous cost savings and user efficiencies.
“We are excited to collaborate with Shearwater. Utilizing Bluware VDS for seismic processing will bring efficiency to the entire workflow and serve our joint customers goals to improve certainty and reduce cycle times,” noted Bluware’s CEO Dan Piette.
